CAL-MSCS Computer Science Models of Practice Summit
Friday June 20, 2025 10:05am - 11:20am PDT
In an era of constrained educational budgets, many districts struggle to provide comprehensive Computer Science (CS) education. However, Alta Loma School District has successfully designed, developed, and implemented a robust CS program without using district funds. By strategically partnering with the San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools, Summer of CS, Cal-MSCS, as well as leveraging grants, free professional development, and accessible resources the team wa sable to overcome significant financial barriers.

Alta Loma School District leaders will present how they reimagined master schedules, maximized staff, and implemented innovative strategies to create a thriving, self-sustaining CS pathway for students in grades 6 through 8, while also offering enrichment opportunities at the elementary level. Despite being one of the lowest-funded districts in San Bernardino County, the district has made CS education a priority and reality for its students, preparing them for a technology-driven future.

This session will share actionable insights, master schedule design, lessons learned, and replicable strategies, empowering other districts to implement impactful CS programs, even on a "shoestring" budget.
