CAL-MSCS Computer Science Models of Practice Summit

Over the past three years, OCDE has collaborated on a federal EIR grant to embed computational thinking (CT) practices into core mathematics and science courses. This initiative aims to strengthen students’ STEM and CS identities while laying a foundation for future computer science study.

Working closely with educators, we have introduced a taxonomy of CT practices tailored to math and science, supporting them in designing units that naturally integrate these practices. A key focus has been making students aware of their engagement in CT, reinforcing its relevance to their learning. These practices not only align with core content but also serve as stepping stones to deeper CS exploration.
